The Legend has it that Cuchullain the Gaelic warrior rested in these woods while fighting the armies of Queen Maeve of Connaught.
The forest is teeming with wildlife including fox, badger, stoat, red and grey squirrel, hedgehog and rabbit. In the river are otters, mink, trout and salmon.
